There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our Group Division are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Assistant for a 12 month fixed-term contract.
Working in a small, friendly payroll department. Alongside 5 others, you will be key to ensuring a smooth and accurate payroll operation.
The Role
The role of the Senior Payroll Assistant reports to the Payroll Manager.
Principal Accountabilities
Managing end-to-end processes including starters and leavers
Maintain accurate records of payroll data for multiple payrolls
Review and verify timesheets
Ensure accuracy and timeliness of payments
Submission of statutory returns to HMRC
Processing statutory deductions
Respond to employee payroll queries with professionalism and care
Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure alignment on employee data and benefits
Support audits and compliance checks by preparing relevant documentation
Third party records, ie. AEO’s, pensions
Other ad hoc payroll reports as required
Train and mentor junior payroll staff as needed
Liaise with other departments in a friendly and professional manner

Experience, Qualifications and skills
Experience
Experience of working within a similar role will be preferred
Experience of working in a fast-paced environment with strict reporting deadlines
Experience of working with construction or housebuilding is desirable
Qualifications and training
GCSE Maths and English – Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent)
A-Level Maths is desirable
CIPP is desirable

Excellent data entry skills
Excellent administration and organisation skills
Analysis, numerical and report writing skills
Strong communication, listening and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
Demonstrates a high level of discretion and confidentiality
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to work on own as well as part of a team
Proficient IT skills along with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and the ability to adapt to new systems
